THE OPEN HOUSE WAS A BIG SUCCESS! WE HAD ALMOST 3000 WORKS OF ART ON DISPLAY, BY ALMOST 400 ARTISTS. IN ATTENDANCE WERE HUNDREDS OF STS FAMILIES and PROSPECTIVE FAMILIES. THANK YOU TO ALL OF THE VOLUNTEERS THAT PUT IT TOGETHER!
Pre-Kindergarten- We explore all of our senses for paying attention and creating works of art. We will make many creations by feeling texture. We will also focus on fish/beach and then trees/leaves during this fall. They get to come to the art room that the BIG kids attend. I am enjoying getting to know my new artists!
the first thing the Pre K artists learn is "Give me 5". That means that all 5 of their senses are focused on the teacher.
past pre-k artists exhibited their self portraits, Big Fish paintings, and totem poles at the open house!
Kindergarten- The Kindergarten students make Artist Eyes. They look like "Super Artists!" They work on the skills of drawing and coloring objects solidly. They will create a Name Game and an Under the Sea project. Self portraits will be drawn and they will continue drawing them every year of art!
kindergartners created their name, their favorite things, and then got to paint!
all of the KINDERGARTNERS learned the skill of how to draw sea life- it's just shapes!
past KINDERGARTNERS below this point
the KINDERGARTNERS created their own winter landscape, inspired by one by peter bruegel
The KINDERGARTNERS drew their self portrait and then looked back at the self portrait they drew in Pre- Kindergarten. They all improved their skills a lot and were so proud!
the kindergartners tried the skill of stamp printing patterns for wrapping paper folders
the kindergartners had 2 works of art to show off at the open house. the artists were so proud! the parents especially enjoyed reading the titles to their abstract mondrian masterpieces!
1st grade- The 1st graders create Name Game projects in which they draw their favorite things with oil pastels and then paint the background with watery paint. They observe how the oil resists the water (Science!). They draw their Family Portraits next. The drawing of stick people is not allowed anymore since they all have the skill of drawing their families with bodies! They also improve on the skill of drawing Self-portraits. The rest of the school year will bring the study of color theory (rainbows), Native American clay pots and Aboriginal Australian Block Prints!

1st graders learned the skill of drawing people with shapes for their family portrait. NO more stick people!
1st graders color their cave art with natural materials (cave kid crayons) and then sign it with their hand print (just like the cave people)!
then the cave went on exhibit at open house!
we begin the show with a representation of the first people on this earth, who were amazing artists.
